Riley-ism

So Riley has spent the last several days digging a hole in Momma Lynn's garden. He says he wants to build a shelter in case we have any weather related emergencies that I strongly suspect is tied to how windy march is. (Seriously, this kid has developed an irrational fear of wind ever since he thought he was going to get blown off delicate arch when we were in Moab.) Anyway, As I picked him up from school yesterday he said he wanted to go to grandma's house so he could keep working on his hole. As we were driving down, he asked if grandma and grandpa would be there. I told him Grandpa Brad was probably still at work but Momma Lynn should be there. He replies "Oh good. Because she owns the garden." The picture is him measuring how deep it is. His goal is to have it to his waist by the weekend.

Riley's first pack night

Tonight Riley had his first scouting event since turning 8 and getting to join cub scouts. It was pack night. Here he is in the center of his fellow wolves. They are doing the "sniff test" to see if he is worthy of being in the pack. He passed. And had a wonderful time. I think he is going to love being in scouts if he has as much fun as he did tonight.

Flashback

So I found this picture in my locker at work and it made me realize just how grown up my now 8 year old boy is.

RILEY'S 8TH BIRTHDAY

Saturday March 17th was Riley's Birthday.  He had a big party planned for all his friends and then we had a family party planned for that night.  Unfortunately he came home from school Thursday not feeling very good.  That night he ran temperature of 103.  He had to cancel his party and was just plain ole sick.  By Saturday night he was feeling a little better so we had a scaled down Birthday party for him at the house.  Here are a few pictures of the event

Day 5

A CTR ring. It even changes colors.

Day 6

A CTR tie tac that looks like a sword and a shield to help Riley remember to put on the whole armor of God.

Day 7 in our it's great to be 8 countdown

Scripture marker pencils.

Snuggles the crack dog

So lately whenever we give snuggles a treat she takes it onto the carpet and proceeds to attack it over and over. It's odd but also very funny.

The Future Missionary...

...getting ready for bed.

The first present!

It's Great to Be 8!! The countdown is on!

We are all set to start Riley's "It's great to be 8" countdown. We just have to wait for him to get home from school to open his first present. I can't believe my baby is going to be 8 in 8 days!

It's a race

Riley says he thinks he came in 2nd or 3rd.

It's a trusting grandpa that lets a 7 year old hammer so close to his fingers.

It's home depot day!

Riley's groundhogs' fun bedroom

This came home in Riley's backpack yesterday. It's apparently a drawing of the underground house of a groundhog, as imagined by Riley. Please take note of the waterproof doors on the drawing as well as the "cool jet room," and "fantastic disco room." And while it's not listed on the paper, the drawing does come complete with a butlers room. If you look at the drawings between the list and the floor plan you will see a jet, a disco ball and a butler with his tray of what I am assuming is cookies. I'll have to verify that with Riley when he gets home from school. I love that kid and his imagination.
