Riley-ism's

I shouldn't find Riley as funny as I do when he is mad. Today, he was playing in our basement with the Hamilton's. Ciana came over to see if he wanted to play. He was taking so long about deciding if he wanted to play that Ciana left so I told him that it was time for his friends to go home and for him to get ready for baseball. After his friends left I tried to talk to him about people's feelings and how it might have made Ciana feel bad that he couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to play with her. He got upset and stomped out of the room. He then came back in and said, "I was going to tell you something but now I'm not going to. Carry on about your business." And stomped back out of the room. Funny right? But it doesn't stop there.
For this next part, you have to understand he is horrible at looking for things. If its not right where he thinks it is and in the first place he looks he stops looking and tells us he can't find it. Even if it is just on the other side of the room. I have been talking to him about thinking outside the box when looking for stuff. Anyway, a few minutes later he was looking for his hat and his mitt and couldn't find it in his room. I hear him stomping around and muttering to himself. I listen closely and this is what he is saying (very dramatically, I might add) "I'm being so stupid. I didn't think outside of the box. My mitt is usually there but now it's not. It's not ever over here but maybe I should look..."
Like I said, it's wrong to find it SO funny when he is so serious and upset over things but sometimes I have to bite my tongue to keep from laughing at the stuff that comes out of his mouth. My sweet, smart kid.

Riley-ism

Riley:Mom will you cut up my burrito?
Me: No. You can do it.
Riley: but I don't know how to do it as good as you.
Me: I had to learn. So can you.
Riley: (pauses) mom, when you do it, it tastes like love.
Me: (cuts up his burrito.)

Yeah. I'm a pushover. But who didn't know that already?

Summer Plans the Riley-ism version

In order for this post to make sense you will have to remember a post I wrote back in may of 2007....
Today we caught the neighborhood toddlers operating an underground fight club. The police were
called, all the kids scattered on their tricycles. Riley's parole officer is worried about the three
strike rule but since the first rule of fight club is don't talk about fight club we are hoping that
there will not be enough evidence to prosecute our little slugger.
In truth, Riley came in from playing today with this. We don't know how it happened. We think
that he either fell or that one of the neighborhood kids threw a rock. This is his first major
bloodshed. Poor kid. I'm afraid that with as rough and tumble as our little boy is though, that
while this may be the first it most likely will not be his last.

Ok, so back to the conversation that Riley and I had on the way to the dentist today:
Riley: Do you want to know my summer plans?
Me: Sure.
Riley: I'm trying to find my fight club.
Me: Your what?
Riley: My fight club. Remember when I was little and someone threw a rock at me and you put a picture of it on the blog? This summer I'm trying to find my fight club.
Me: I remember but I don't understand.
Riley: You said it was underground. So I'm going to find it. Do you remember where it was buried?

To top it off, he even told the dental assistant a similar version of the story while she was taking the x-rays of his teeth. She looked like she was about to call DCFS for thinking I let my 8 year old watch the movie Fight Club so I had to give an explanation. Fortunately for me, she thought it was funny too.
