Having finally drug myself out of bed after suffering from one of the worst colds I have had in a long time...(as a p.s., Sorry I missed spending time with you Adam. I hope I can catch you when you come back through before you leave for Europe, you fancy world traveler.) I decided to catch up on some friends blogs and found that I had been tagged by
Marissa. Sorry I am a little late in getting it posted. Ok so here goes. The rules of the tag are as follows:
1. Link the person who tagged you. (Click on Marissa's name anywhere it appears in this post if you want to check out her super cute blog and look at pics of her adorable girls. I've known her and her husband since elementary school and think they are both wonderfully good people. And aside from an embarrassing story about my shoe and her husband I hope they feel the same about me. Sorry Ryan. Really.)2. Post the rules on your blog. (these are the rules. Ooh I am so good at this already.)3. Write 6 random things about yourself. (see below)4. Tag 6 people at the end of your post and link to them. (Again, see below. Does that make you nervous? Are you wondering if your name is going to be on the list? Are your palms starting to sweat? Go ahead. Take a peek. Just look further down. A little further. You know, below my random facts. There you go!)5. Let the person know you tagged them on their blog. (Roger, roger.)6. Let the tagger know when you've posted. (Marissa - again, her name is a link - I will leave you a comment on your post.) Things about myself:
Random fact # 1: I am double jointed, a fact that I have always thought is pretty cool. It makes me feel unique and I get a small thrill to see people visibly shudder as I bend my thumb backwards to touch just below my wrist. I don't know why. I think this is probably the only area in my life where I relish the fact that I can gross people out. I also secretly wish that Riley had inherited this trait and I will occasionally stretch his fingers out against mine and apply very soft pressure to see if they are any more flexible than they were on the hopes that being double jointed is a trait that can spontaneously occur rather than something you were born with. (ok, apparently in my mind, random also means embarrassing. I'm not the next Mommy Dearest, I swear.)
Random fact # 2: I have never voiced this out loud before but I believe, in my head, that if I were in shape (a.k.a. emaciatingly thin) I could kick some serious booty on America's Next Top Model. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm gonna put the whole truth out there. I think I could win. Not because I have some vain opinion of myself where I think I am so incredibly gorgeous. A lot of the girls on that show are not even that hot. Mostly they are tall and thin. So, since I am neither tall or thin why do I think I could win? Because I feel like I have an overly expressive face. A 1920's-silent-film/I'm-ready-for-my-close-up-Mr.-DeMille/You-can-read-my-every-expression face. And when I indulge in my guilty pleasure and sneak an episode or two, the judges are always talking about how awful a photo shoot was and how the stick-thin giraffe-tall girl has dead eyes/no expression, etc. etc. And as I watch I just know that I could knock it out of the park, which is pretty much why I watch. I imagine myself getting to take weird pictures in awesome locations and winning it all. And also because in the Jr. Miss Santaquin contest when I was 13? I was given an award for the best walk so I just know I could work that runway. And one thing I have learned from watching that show is that tall girls don't know how to walk in high heels. I would stomp them into the dirt. :)
Random fact # 3: I love having polish on my toenails but I hate having polish on my fingernails, unless it is clear or french tip. No funny/weird/embarrassing story on this one. I don't know why, its just the way I feel.
Random fact # 4: I cannot stand to even think about someone pinching the loose skin on a persons elbow. Even the thought gives me the heebie-jeebies and makes me feel a little nauseous. I need to stop writing now because... Ugh! Blech! Eek!
Random fact # 5: I worry that I think my son is too perfect. Seriously, in every single way the greatest little boy ever born. Hello? He was reading when he was three. I could go on and on. But I don't want to be one of THOSE moms. So when I feel myself bursting with just a bit too much pride I bring up some random 'flaw' about him, like his ginormous head. I do this to put a little humility into his life. Not that I sit him down and say 'Riley, you have a ginormous head son and it will plague you forever.' I just make the occasional funny comment in passing conversation. But then I worry that instead of being one of THOSE moms I will become one of
those moms. You know. The ones who push their kids into therapy where they will cry about never getting enough love or affection and it makes them question their self worth for the rest of their lives. So how do I balance it out? Am I doing the right thing by trying to instill an ability to laugh at oneself in my son or am I marring his formative years with scars that will never heal? These are the thoughts that keep me awake some nights. I think maybe I am the one who needs a little therapy. But then of course, I obviously never had my parents tell me that I had a big head because I'm the girl who thinks she can win America's Next Top Model. (see random fact #2 if you don't get this reference.) (haha big head/big head it works both ways. I'm so funny.)
Random fact # 6: When I stand in the shower while rinsing the suds from my hair I am not thinking of the mundane wash, rinse, repeat. Instead I plot out my novel. The one that I dream of writing which will instantly make me a best-seller. I have found the shower is the best place in the world to let my mind wander without any interruptions. Yeah yeah, I have a 4 year old. Time alone is precious. Hurray for showers!
